Mastercard Appoints Raj Seshadri As New President

Raj Seshadri is appointed as president, data & services for Mastercard, and succeeds in Kevin Stanton, who is designated as a new chief transformation officer.

FREMONT, CA: A technology company in the global payments industry, Mastercard has appointed Raj Seshadri as president for the company’s data and services organization. She will directly report to Ajay Banga, president, and chief executive officer. She succeeds in Kevin Stanton, who is designated as a new chief transformation officer.

Seshadri will draw upon her insights and successful track record as president of U.S. issuers over the past four years. During this time, she helped in the growth of the company’s regional credit, debit, commercial and prepaid card programs, across the U.S. market. Here, Seshadri will manage company’s global data and services products and solutions that support core payments.

President and chief executive officer, Ajay Banga says they have benefitted from Seshadri’s analytical perspectives to rethink and re-establish their contribution as a trusted partner to the issuing customers. He also added that as she moves to this new role, she will build upon the established foundations and continue to expand this truly differentiated part of the business.

In 2016, Seshadri left BlackRock and joined Mastercard, and she served BlackRock as a managing director leading the company’s iShares U.S. retail ETF business. Before that, she has worked as Global Chief Marketing Officer of iShares. Earlier Seshadri held leadership roles at Citigroup in global strategy and small business banking; U.S. Trust in marketing, strategy, and M&A; McKinsey & Company; and AT&T Bell Laboratories.

Seshadri pursued a bachelor’s degree from Mount Holyoke College in physics and mathematics, and then a Master of Business Administration from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in physics from Harvard University.

With the appointment of Seshadri, Kevin Stanton takes on a new role as chief transformation officer. Additionally, the executive vice president of U.S. merchants and acceptance Linda Kirkpatrick will replace Seshadri, and assume the role of president, U.S. issuers.
