India Will Soon Win The Tag Of Domino's 2nd-Largest Market After U.S.

Bangalore: India is all set to takeover the position of becoming Domino’s second largest market aster U.S., reports Hindustan Times. Currently India has 600 stores and is in the 3rd position, UK is the second.

"In the global Domino's system, India is amongst the top three countries in terms of absolute number of stores," said Shyam S Bhartia, chairman, Jubilant FoodWorks which operates the pizza chain in India.

India will be the pizza giant’s second-largest market in terms of outlets within the next couple of months, the company said highlighting the country's importance in the food chain's global strategy.

"At present, India has 600 outlets whereas UK has over 700 outlets. In other 12 to 24 months, India will become our second largest market," said Steven Pizziol, vice-president, Asia Pacific, Domino's Pizza.  The company has around 5000 outlets in the U.S.

Dominos is planning to open 125 new stores in India within 2013. The 600th store of the company was opened in Vasant Kunj, Delhi. The store is conceptualized on "Pizza Theatre" that features an open display kitchen and restaurant layout.

"The concept, which has already been adopted in Domino's restaurants across many international markets, has been designed to enhance the consumer engagement," Bhartia said.

In order to strengthen its dine-in segment other than the home delivery section, the company may start launching every store in this format.

"We have started looking for relatively bigger store size which ranges between 1,400 to 1,700 sq. feet against the previous size of 1,000 sq. feet," Pizziol said.
