Delhi Government Defends FDI In Retail

New Delhi:  The Delhi government defended in the state legislature FDI in retail, stating that it suited India's ground realities.

"The implementation of FDI in retail trade suits the ground realities of our country. The BJP has always been opposing new initiatives," said Mukesh Sharma, parliamentary secretary to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

"The city government is firm on its commitment to implement FDI in Delhi and there is no question of going back. The chief minister has already given suitable instructions to give final touches to an appropriate proposal," Sharma said.

In his reply during the discussion in the assembly, Delhi Development Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan said: "In case an amendment in the APMC (Agriculture Procedure Marketing Committee) Act would be required, the government would go ahead in this direction."

The discussion was initiated by BJP leaders V.K. Malhotra, R.N. Bansal and Jagdish Mukhi.
