Car Cos Join Hands With e-Com Portals to Boost Sales

BANGALORE: In an attempt to receive all presented sales offers car marketers are partnering with e-commerce portals such as Carwale, Cardekho and others to report on 'prospects' online as well as sell vehicles. Carmakers that include Honda Cars and Renault India have already begun shadowing this tactic while at the same time several mass market brands such as Hyundai are pursuing in-house strategy to profit from online sales, reports TOI.

Country CEO& MD, Renault India Operations Sumit Sawhney said, "Renault India is working with online ecommerce platforms to complement our brick-and-mortar network. E-commerce platforms like Cardekho, Carwale etc., are engaged with us and we are trying to leverage these opportunities to sell more cars. We want to use them to complement sales through our dealer network."

Auto industry cited that the priority of service connection with dealer is not likely that a sudden shift of car demand will occur in moving towards online all of a sudden. Senior VP-sales and marketing, Honda Cars India, Jnaneswar Sen said, "Already more and more people are researching online and this will evolve over a period of time but not necessarily like the way it has happened in mobiles or durables."

Bigger value brands like Hyundai are focusing on in-house initiatives to balance click-and-portal and brick-and-mortar sales. Hyundai is now luring customers through online CRM and dealer websites for getting online sales.
