1975—Sony Betamax
The 1970s saw a war in home video formats between Betamax and VHS. But Sony which failed to look into the market scenario at that time started selling the Betamax in 1975, while its competitors were selling VHS machines.
 Moreover, Sony even chose not to license Betamax technology and this mistake gave rise for VHS products and grew quickly by completely outpacing the lone Betamax producer.

1985—New Coke
In the 1970s and early 80s, Coke began to face stiff competition from other soft drink makers. In order to remain competitive and regain top spot, Coke executives decided to cease production on the classic cola in favor of New Coke. While New Coke fared well in nationwide taste tests before being  launched in 1985, it turned out that results those were misleading and public was outraged with this act. Coca-Cola was then forced to re-launch its original formula almost immediately.
