The stainless-steel teapot resembling the Nazi leader Adolf Hitler was unintentionally designed by America's most influential postmodern architect Michael Graves, which sparked controversy. The $40 kettle had an image of Hitler's mustache and parted hair, with a little more imagination, the kettle spout looked like a right arm raised in a Nazi salute.

J.C. Penney took it seriously and removed the billboard featuring a tea kettle and the kettle was also gone from jcpenney.com. However, the product had already been sold out online and in many stores.

J.C. Penney released a statement assuring the public that the resemblance was “certainly unintended. If we’d designed the kettle to look like something, we would’ve gone with a snowman or something fun,”
