Establishment: 1962 Affiliation: Autonomous The University of North Bengal was established by Act of the Legislature of West Bengal in 1962 and assigned the mandate of providing teaching, training and research in various branches of advanced learning, and promoting the dissemination of knowledge to fulfill growing socio-economic and technical manpower needs in the North Bengal districts and the neighboring state of Sikkim. Recognising the future scope in IT, The Department of Computer Science & Applications of NBU was among the first 20 institutes in the country to start a computer course in association with DOEACC, it was established in the year 1984. A full-time Master degree course in Computer Applications was started in the year 1988 with a view to offer an in-depth knowledge in computers.
