In 1986, Meenakshi College earned the distinction of being the first college under the University of Madras to offer the highly prestigious Master of Computer Applications course and with this milestone was born the Department of Computer Science. All the computing resources of the college were revamped and brought under one roof in 2003. Thus was born the Abhinava Vidyatheertha Computer Center.
