Traits like analytical skills, multi-dimensional thinking and clarity of thoughts are indispensable. To work for a product organization, candidates have to grade through mathematical, situational and programmable tests. Many times, a non-techie finds it difficult to acquire these skill-sets resulting in a delayed conversion of productive time. I recently rejected a top rank holder of a premier institute on this ground. I enjoy working with candidates who have an eye for detail and are ready to re-engineer and innovate novel products.
However, I loathe candidates who ride on the back of their managers for their own success. Applicants who are keen on getting increments and who do not focus on delivering outputs find no place in the industry. I have a preference for candidates who like to work in a team to yield constructive results.
