California based desktop virtualization company nivio raised $21 million from Videocon and AEC Partners. “We are proud that nivio has successfully delivered 7x returns to some of our angels in this round. The support we have received from our angels over the last seven years has been unparalleled and without their support we would not have got this far,” says Dev Duggal, Founder and Chief Wizard, nivio. The company was co-founded in 2004 by Sachin Dev Duggal and Saurabh Dhoot. The funds would be used for expanding its engineering efforts in its Palo Alto office and to incorporate the cloud platform across its operating regions in Europe, Middle East, India, and Australia.

nivio allows users to access a full Microsoft OS in the cloud, at anytime and anyplace, on any tablet, laptop, or PC, and offers a seamless syncing of files. Its clients for iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac would be available in the later part of the month. Its Ubiquity client delivers the entire desktop over any HTML5 browser, apart from delivering the Windows OS and productivity software from nivio’s cloud to any device. This eliminates the need for the users to download anything. Its App Store lets the users rent their regular desktop software on any screen, with the nDrive providing upto 10GB of free storage.

“We are very excited about this space; especially as there is a sea-change happening in this industry and across the board between consumer electronics and Computing; and nivio saw this vision well before the Cloud was even called the Cloud. We are excited about the future opportunities for globalisation it presents to Videocon and the strategic benefit to our existing products and services!” says Venugopal Dhoot, Chairman, Videocon.
