When we started siliconindia two years ago, we only had a “whiff” of the phenomenon we were about to cover: technological advances had just spawned the Internet revolution, which in turn was beginning to create tumultuous change in the business world, the stock market and even the way we live our lives. Of course, we were also keenly aware that Indians were playing key roles in all areas of business and technology. As the months passed, however, we began to realize that we had seen only a fraction of the whole picture — what appeared before us as we set about our task was truly amazing.
The realization that we were dealing with a phenomenon much bigger than we thought made us even more determined and more passionate. There was so much to assimilate and chronicle; people, technologies and companies were moving at such a feverish pace that it was a challenge just to keep up.

After two years of this exciting ride, we are instituting the siliconindia Leadership Awards to honor the men and women who are fueling this revolution, who have set high standards of business and technological leadership and will go on to play key roles in the drama that is unfolding in the high-tech world around us. This year’s 10 award recipients have been chosen after weeks of evaluation and discussion. We wished to present awards to individuals who have excelled in corporate roles as well as those who have broken new ground in entrepreneurship. We have maintained a balance between those who have “been there, done that” — but are relentless in their pursuit of doing it all over again; and the bright rising stars who have obtained support for their vision and are now busy executing their business ideas. Check out the profiles of the awardees on page 54.

The awards will be presented at the siliconindia Technology and Entrepreneurship Conference on October 2 and 3 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA. It’s going to be a great event, with several top-notch speakers and plenty of networking opportunities. More information is available at www.siliconindia.com/events. We look forward to seeing you there!

It all started with a bang, and it continues to grow with incredible force. Perhaps no one is as amazed by the siliconindia phenomenon as we are ourselves. As more supporters join us, as team members and as readers, our spirits are sky high. If you think we’ve already come a long way, all we can say is this: you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

With glazed, dreamy eyes we present this special issue, and urge you to check out our completely redesigned, totally cool Web site, plus our revved-up conference circuit. As always, we look forward to your continued support, partnership and critical feedback!
