TiEcon 2013 Highlights

Keynotes and Breakthrough Thinkers

Day one of the two-day event kicked off with the keynote from Satya Nadella, President, Server & Tools Business, Microsoft; and Jeff Weiner, CEO, LinkedIn, followed by discussion on Mobile, Big Data and SDI. Nadella spoke about the BYOD trend. He said, "We are witnessing a big change in how IT probations allow its infrastructure to consumerization. Everybody is inclined towards bringing their own device to work and wants all their data and applications on their device. At the same time, the companies need to work towards making sure the things are complained and should try to get the balance on how you still have the ability to secure access to your information and applications."

Where Nadella stressed on information security, Jeff shared his thoughts on leadership. He said, "There is a very clear difference between leadership and management. With management, you find people who tell you what to do but leadership inspires others. Right focus will help you to hit the bull's eye with right decision policy on right time."

The second day of the event started with the keynote from Bharat Desai, Chairman & Co-Founder, Syntel, and Ronnie Screwvala, Managing Director, Disney-UTV. Desai explained his reason for being an entrepreneur. He said, "To be successful in any business, you have to identify who your customers are. Your customers have to think about you often; you have to be convinced that what you offer is going to be extremely important, relevant and dear to them."
Adding to Desai's thought, Screwvala explained, "Today we see a lot of aspiring entrepreneurs who contemplate working with their spouse and this is perfectly fine. It necessarily makes a difference as we are aware of the strengths and weaknesses of each other and that makes a strong team. Women with skills can be more powerful than Men."

The grand closing keynote was delivered by Manoj Bhargava, Founder & CEO, 5-hour Energy. Bhargava stressed on the need of common sense in this entrepreneurial world that one does not get from his business school. Bhargava said, "Kids think they know everything when they come out of school but they forget that education comes with experience."
