Supercomputing Goes Personal through Telsa

Bringing the lightning speed home, the desktop supercomputer includes four graphics chips, each with 240 cores. Added to the world’s 29th and Japan’s second fastest supercomputer, the Telsa system enabled the beginning of GPU acceleration becoming mainstream. Moreover, the new personal supercomputer also allows doctors to obtain results in far shorter times than with a normal PC.
The Telsa based processors stemmed from the GeForce 8 Series GPUs. They were unveiled at the SC08 conference in Austin in November, fulfilling all the criteria of a personal supercomputer that replicates a desktop version at an affordable rate; and has eventually been ranked among the Top 500 systems.
