ThoughtWorks inaugurates Pune Facility
Global IT consultancy ThoughtWorks announced the opening of its new facility in Pune. The 14000 sq. ft state-of-the-art facility with a capacity for 175 staff currently employs 25 people. It will be the second development center for the company in India, with the first advanced center set up in Bangalore in 2001.
“Our Bangalore operations have contributed enormously to our global growth story, and we are looking forward to our Pune operations to extend this advantage,” said Dharmarajan Sitaraman, MD, ThoughtWorks India.
The Pune office will service the company’s global clients and also provide consulting to Indian businesses in the Western India region.
PayPal to open IDC
Online payment company PayPal announced that it would open a new development center in Chennai, and plans to hire hundreds of technical positions in 2007.
“Chennai and the surrounding area is home to a large and skilled technical workforce,” said Raj Sundaresan, Vice President and General Manager, Global Product Development, PayPal. The PayPal development center has openings for technical professionals with expertise in product development, software engineering and other IT functions.
PayPal is noted for its exceptional work environments and its commitment to both employees and community.
Tech Mahindra sets up new development center
Software services provider for the telecom sector, Tech Mahindra has announced its plans to set up a software development center in Hyderabad.
On completion, the new campus will be in a position to accommodate 3,000 software engineers. The company recently signed a MoU for the acquisition of land for the purpose.
It also announced upgrading of its Pune center. After the completion of the infrastructure it will have a capacity to seat 10,000 people.
Fujitsu ODC in Trivandrum
Network Systems and Technologies, the engineering software services wing of the NeST group, opened an offshore development center for Japan’s Fujitsu VLSI in Thiruvananthapuram. A subsidiary of Fujitsu - a Fortune 500 firm, Fujitsu VLSI is a total solution provider of electronic devices.
Toshimasa Wada, executive vice-president (electronic devices) of Fujitsu, said the firm had been on the lookout for creative and resourceful partners.
“I consider VLSI (Very Large Scale Integrated Circuit) design as the next growth engine for the semiconductor division of NeST,” said NeST group Chairman Javad Hassan.
NeST is an international corporate group of over 25 companies employing more than 3,000 people worldwide, with a global export business turnover in excess of $200 million.
Bangalore gets IBM’s semiconductor unit
IBM is setting up a semiconductor-related research center in Bangalore. The research center - Semiconductor Research and Development Enablement Center (SRDC) will be IBM’s sixth center globally and the first outside US and Europe. To start with, the center will be engaged in compact modeling, expanding into other areas based on progress.
The center falls in the scheme of the $6 million investment in India that was announced by IBM in June 2006 of $ 6 billion over the next three years and this new center is a part of it.
David L. Harame, director enablement, Systems & Technology group, IBM said that the company is setting up operations in Bangalore owing to the presence of skilled manpower and has already begun the recruitment process. An IBM official also mentioned that it is in the process of forming alliances with top universities to acquire the required talent.
