India to get e-passports
Indian citizens can look forward to having biometric passports or e-passports by 2008, according to Anand Sharma, Union Minister of State for External Affairs.
The minister, while pointing out that several countries have been incorporating biometric information in their passports to ensure tighter security, stated that the e-passports would be valid for 10 years. India to play key role in online world: Michael Dell
Addressing a recent CII-CEOs Forum, Michael Dell stated that India is one of the centers of the world’s technology transformation. He added that India was an exciting place to be, as the country has recorded a 700 percent growth in her internet user base since 2000.
Currently, 50 million Indians are online, which is less than five percent of the population. This indicates a tremendous growth potential in the online sphere; with the technology industry booming and economy growing at about nine percent a year, the future promises to be one of innovation and positive change in the world of technology, Dell added.
