Imagine owning thousands of photos and spending hours to download, upload, tag, and categorize. How about having a service that allows the users to put their photo collection onto the Web and then access and modify those photos from any device they may be using.

Palo Alto, CA based Sharpcast Inc exactly does that. It makes storing and using photos easier. That’s why the company that had started in 2004 has already raised $13.5 million in Series B funding by Sigma Partners and Series A investors Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Selby Venture Partners also participating.

Founder Gibu Thomas says, “From the beginning, Sharpcast has been intensely focused on creating a user experience that is simple and intuitive enough for average consumers.” Today we are pleased to be announcing the support of these great partners who share our vision. We now have the capital we need to deliver on the promise of complete simplicity in accessing and managing digital media and information.”

Sharpcast is developing a suite of consumer services that dramatically simplifies the way people manage, access, back up and share digital media and information. With Sharpcast services, a person’s PC and mobile phone work together automatically to keep all of their media and information in sync, backed up on the web and instantly accessible wherever they are.

Speaking about the competition, Thomas says the company faces no competition, as their product is one of its kind in the market. However there are others like Kodak Gallery, Snapfish and Flickr who are watching Sharpcast’s moves. “My prediction is that a Google-esque company will emerge in this space,” Thomas quips.

The Series B funding will be used to accelerate development of the Sharpcast services suite and to enable growth to support the rollout of its offerings beginning later this spring. The company presently has 30 employees.
