A Mountain View based developer of mobile Web browsers, Skyfire has raised $5 million in third-round funding. The funding comes from the company's existing investors - Lightspeed Venture Partners, Trinity Ventures, and Matrix Partners.

With this round of funding, the company has now raised $22.8 million and aims to further roll out its game-changing Skyfire mobile browser. The browser's main strength is its ability to load easily and help a user to navigate complex or media-heavy websites, like the social network Facebook. According to Nitin Bandari, Co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Skyfire, the company is poised to bring its technology to a large number of handsets giving the users a freedom to browse whatever they want.

Skyfire is a free, downloadable mobile browser. Currently, the browser runs on Windows Mobile (Smartphones and PPC) and Nokia N and E Series (Symbian S60, 3rd Edition) phones. According to the company, users can experience the full PC Web version of sites like YouTube, Facebook, and Last.fm at a faster speed.

At present, the company is officially launched in the U.S, Canada, and the U.K. Founded in 2006, the Skyfire team includes technology veterans from Adobe, Creative, eBay, Extreme Networks, MobiTV, Pinnacle, and Shutterfly.
