The Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) was created as a cutting edge platform to technological revolution that will change the way Malaysians and others in the region conduct business.
Located at the hub of Asia’s fastest-growing markets, the MSC occupies a 15 km by 50 km corridor governed by groundbreaking cyberlaws, policies and practices that enable operating companies to harness the full potential of Information Communications Technology and Multimedia.

There are currently more than 522 million users online worldwide, with ICT spending continuing to grow from US $1.3 trillion in 1993 to US $2.4 trillion in 2001. These numbers, coupled with the continuing process of convergence of technologies blurring the lines between modes of commerce, puts increasing pressure on proactive industry and government policy coordination.

To help achieve this, the Malaysian government and the Multimedia Development Corporation have been dedicated to ensuring that MSC is a world-class environment to harness the full potential of multimedia. We proactively collaborate with the government and companies for mutual enrichments by continuously reviewing the Bill of Guarantee and ensuring its implementation in both spirit and letter. We actively assist the Malaysian Government to pioneer, develop and update cyberlaws, formulate policy and modify practices to provide a sound frame for the MSC; and to ensure that the Open Multimedia Networks provides the required bandwidth and quality at globally competitive tariffs with cost-effective interconnection for value-added services.

With this unique corridor, Malaysia continues to attract leading ICT companies of the world to locate their industries in the MSC and undertake research, develop new products and technologies and export from this base. The MSC is also an ideal growth environment for Malaysian ICT SMEs to transform themselves into world-class companies. Furthermore, the MSC welcomes countries to use its highly advanced infrastructural facilities as a global test bed for ICT applications and a hub for their regional operations in Asia.

Since inception in 1996, the MSC has become the regional launch site for companies developing or using leading multimedia technology. We have currently 1003 MSC-status companies out of which 60 are world-class companies.

To further drive the development and growth of the MSC, eight MSC Flagship Applications were launched. They are the Electronic Government, Multipurpose Card, Smart Schools, Telehealth, R&D Cluster, Borderless Marketing, World Wide Manufacturing Web and Technopreneur Development. Together, these Flagship Applications will jump start the development of MSC, provide business opportunities for ICT companies especially Malaysian ICT SMEs and to spearhead the transformation of Malaysian society into a knowledge society.

However, the MSC is not just about technology and regulations, the MSC was also designed to provide a world-class living and working environment for the knowledge workers.

We developed a green and environmentally friendly area combining state-of-the-art urban planning with nature that is well served by world-class amenities and facilities such as shopping malls, smart homes, hotels, public transportation networks, smart hospitals, smart schools and other modern conveniences.
Driving this bold initiative is the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDC), a high-powered 'one-stop agency', wholly focused on ensuring the success of the MSC and the companies operating in it. It markets the MSC globally, facilitates investment, formulation of new Cyberlaws and policies, and sets standards for the MSC’s information infrastructure and urban developments.
