Gaming has always captured one’s imagination, be it video games, play stations, online gaming and now with mobile games the industry has evolved. Though the demand for mobile games is less in India, the games developed in the country have high demand in the global market. Indian gaming companies like Indiagames, Dhruva Interactive, Paradox and Mobile2Win have had their games online for a while in the U.K and the U.S.

Indian gaming business represents hardly five percent of the world gaming market. According to In-Stat/MDR, the U.S. based tech industry research firm, the Indian gaming business is likely to hit $50 million mark in 2005 and it is expected to touch $336 million in revenue by 2009.

With the increasing numbers of mobile subscriber base and high penetration of color Java handsets in India, the demand of mobile games is expected to swell in the next few years. Analysts predict that by 2009, about 220 million people would be playing games on mobile phones that will generate billions for mobile service providers.

To lure more subscribers towards this value-added service, operators such as Airtel and Orange update the 1,000-odd games twice in a week. According to an estimate, 450,000 game downloads are made onto mobiles every month and the numbers are growing by 30 to 40 percent. This shows that spending $2.25 to download a game doesn’t matter much for those who are having gaming mania.
