LightSquared, a Reston, Virginia, based company led by Sanjiv Ahuja, specializes in building open wireless broadband network. The company is presently building the only national 4G-LTE open wireless broadband network that incorporates nationwide satellite coverage and offers the capacity to support the explosive demand generated by new consumer devices and mobile applications. Its network is designed to support present-day and emerging wireless devices without restrictions.

The company operates on a wholesale-only business model, making it the sole wireless provider of its kind in the U.S. market. Its partners, who do not have their own wireless network or who have limited geographic coverage or spectrum, can market and sell their own products using the LightSquared network — at a competitive price and without retail competition from LightSquared. The company’s wireless broadband network is expected to cover at least 92 percent of U.S. consumers by 2015. The company has a very clear agenda set for its growth with plans to cover more than 100 million potential customers with its terrestrial LTE service by the end of 2012, 145 million by the end of 2013 and more than 260 million by the end of 2015.

With the increasing popularity of wireless broadband, their exclusivity in the 4G space, and multi-year contracts with the likes of Nokia Siemens Networks, and Open Range Communications, it looks like the company is poised for great heights.
