It has been a dream of all Indians to see a compatriot of them taking off to the moon. But one has to wait over a decade for that dream to come true. Top space scientists who were involved in the successful launch of Chandrayaan-1 say that the country would be able to send a manned mission to the moon only by 2020. However, the country's second unmanned spacecraft would be ready by 2012.

"Space is going to be the next frontier for the future generation, and India cannot afford to lag behind," says Indian Space Research Organization Chairman G Madhavan Nair. Though India has the capacity and technology, the country needs to provide training to a human being to survive the conditions on moon and the zero gravitation, he added.

"If everything goes as per the plan, we will be ready to send a man to the moon by 2020," says Jitendranath Goswami, Director of the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad.
