Indian Americans Attaining New Heights in the U.S.
SI Team
Wednesday, February 2, 2011
Indian Americans are accomplishing great heights these days, more than ever before. Recently U.S. President Barack Obama has named an Indian-American doctor, Vivek Murthy, to an Advisory Group on Prevention, Health Promotion and Integrative and Public Health, and re-nominated an Indian American agricultural scientist, Islam A. Siddiqui, as Chief Agricultural Negotiator in trade talks. Murthy, an attending physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and an instructor at Harvard Medical School, is also the Co-Founder and Chairman of Epernicus, LLC, a privately-held company that builds social networking platforms for scientific institutions and clinical trials. Siddiqui will serve as Chief Agricultural Negotiator in the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) once more, with the rank of ambassador.

Similarly, in Ohio Jai Chabria became the Senior Adviser the Governor John Kasich. His duties include overseeing gubernatorial appointments and managing personnel for state agencies. He will also work directly with the Ohio Department of Development as it transitions into JobsOhio. “Whatever duty is assigned to me, I’ll try to fulfill it according to the best of my ability,” said Chabria. Even though Chabria never participated in Kasich’s election campaign, they both worked in Lehman Brothers for seven years.

In yet another instance Vijay Sazawal, the Director of government programs for the U.S. Enrichment Corporation, got appointed to the Civil Nuclear Trade Advisory Committee by the U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Gary Locke. The 35-year veteran of both the civilian and defense nuclear industry was among the people who helped in bringing 2008 U.S.-India civilian nuclear power initiative to reality. These three are among many great feats that the Indian Americans are achieving in the U.S. now, and this seems to be only the beginning.
