ISA’s Growth Party
ST Team
Tuesday, August 1, 2006
Indian Semiconductor Association has grown in membership and you now need a directory to search its members. With about 200 semicon companies in the country, the association has bagged 50 percent of them. And it intends to grow the semicon pie going further to keep its pace. “We are entering our second year with 110 plus members,” said Rajendra Kumar Khare, Chairman of ISA and the MD of Broadcom India, during the launch of ISA Membership Directory.

A handbook listing Indian and Global semiconductor companies from design to manufacture and tooling to testing; some chip technology focused academic institutes and venture firms are a part of it too.

Like NASSCOM is to software, ISA aspires to be the same for semiconductor. Poornima Shenoy, the President of ISA emphasized, “We are under an umbrella of our own.” Also celebrating its 1st year anniversary of forming the secretariat, ISA predicts that the high-tech semicon industry alone would require close to 8 lakh engineers by 2015, which is now 68000. And the growth in revenues would be mind-boggling 15 times that is from $3 billion now to $45 billion by 2015. A mammoth growth that needs right nurturing from now—is ISA’s philosophy.

Anup Pujary, the chief secretary of IT, Karnataka, was the guest of honor unveiling the directory, while his predecessor Vivek Kulkarni and counterpart Radha Prabha from Andhra Pradesh joined him in the celebration.
