10 Indian-Americans elected to US engineering academy

It is a big moment in the engineering community as ten distinguished Indian Americans are among the 67 incipient members and 12 foreign associates elected for America's prestigious National Academy of Engineering (NAE) for their pioneering works in the field of technology.

The procedures for nomination and election of member and foreign member candidates involve a search in all fields of engineering by present members of the NAE for outstanding engineers with identifiable contributions or accomplishments.

Having, more than 2,000 peer elected members and foreign members, senior professionals- the world's most accomplished engineers, provide the leadership and expertise for numerous projects focused on the relationships between engineering, technology, and the quality of life. The induction transpires as these ten members have distinguished themselves in business and academic management, in technical positions, as university faculty, and as leaders in government and private engineering organizations. The election to the NAE is one of the foremost honors for engineers who have made notable accomplishments.

The Indian-Americans include Hari Balakrishnan, Professor of Computer Science, Anantha Chandrakasan Professor of Electrical Engineering and Head, Department of Electrical Engineering and Comp Science, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sangeeta Bhatia, investigator, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Deepakraj M Divan, President, Chief Technical Officer, Varentec Inc.

Others include Supratik Guha, Director of Physical Sciences, IBM Corp, Samir Mitragotri, Director, Center for Bioengineering, Santosh K Das, retired Vice President, Polymer Technologies Inc., Guruswami Ravichandran, Junior Professor of Aerospace, Junuthula N Reddy, distinguished professor, Ajit P Yoganathan, Regents' Professor.
