Last week we witnessed Hurricane Sandy bumping the shores of East cost of U.S. bringing halt to many businesses. This reminds me of the major shift that happened in the early years of brain drain in India, where most of the IITians turned to entrepreneurs and propelled to start businesses in U.S. The move has always helped us to remain as a critical asset for maintaining U.S. competitiveness in the global economy.
This spirit of competitiveness has always continued to grow and we are glad to see that over last few years, Indian entrepreneurs are embracing the disruptive technologies such as cloud computing, mobile, social and big data, where they are able to draw attention of eminent venture capitalists. Moreover the recent study indicates that 24.3 percent of engineering and technology start-up companies have at least one immigrant founder serving in a key role. Indian-born entrepreneurs, representing 33 percent of the companies, dominated the group.
siliconindia has always tried to highlight and celebrate the power of entrepreneurship among the Indians in the U.S. 15th si100 listing of 100 top companies founded by Indians in the U.S. is our endeavor in this regard. This year’s si100 listing also represents the continuing rise and glory of the Indian entrepreneur in high-tech space and identifies companies impacting the marketplace.
