Indian Developed Software Makes Blurry Pictures Clear

Blurred pictures are often a worry, especially when the photos hold special memories. But worry no more; Neel Joshi, a computer vision engineer at the University of California, San Diego and his colleagues have developed a software that can transform blurry photographs into clear pictures that are worth keeping.
Joshi realized that precious moments are often lost due to blur induced by camera shake and poor lighting when he and his colleagues studied home photo collections and saw that the faces in many pictures were blurry. Unlike Photoshop, the software developed by Joshi does not remodel ones physical features in a picture. But it can fix problems with the photo - blurriness or shade - by sharpening up facial features according to the stock image of a particular face.
The software developed by the team uses an algorithm that uses facial recognition methods like those in some photo editors to find a sharp image with a similar pose. The pattern of color and light in the blurry face is then tweaked to match the model photo. The software can also add color and shine to black and white pictures.
The software is yet to be available commercially. But when it does, no more losing out on special moments of life.
