12 techies in Forbes 40 richest Indians

In the latest annual Forbes India’s 40 rich, the technology industry (telecom included) has 12 people. The list is led by Steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal with a personal wealth of $20 billion, followed by Wipro Chairman Azim H. Premji at $11 billion.

Closely following Premji is Anil Ambani at 4 with a net worth of $5.5 billion. At 5 is India’s telecom czar Sunil Mittal with $4.9 billion.

At number 10 is Anurag Dikshit of Party Gaming, a London based online poker site that went public last year. He is worth $3.1 billion. Shiv Nadar of HCL at 11 is worth $3 billion. Infosys chief mentor N.R. Narayana Murthy with $1.1 billion is ranked at 26 while Vikrant Bhargava, co-founder of Party Gaming is ranked at 30 with $870 million.

Bangalorean Nandan M. Nilekani (Infosys) with $740 million is at 33 while Biotech Czarina Kiran Mazumdar Shaw of Biocon with $710 million is at 34. Fellow Bangalorean S. Gopalakrishnan (Infosys) $700 million is ranked 35.

B. Ramalinga Raju (Satyam Computer) $670 million is at 36 while Narendra Patni (Patni Computer Systems) $650 million, who shuttles between Boston and Mumbai is at 37.
