News For Your Use Date:   Saturday , September 30, 2006 IBM to augment India staff by 3000 IBM, already the largest MNC IT employer in India will escalate its staff by another 3000 in Kolkata by year-end. The company employs about 39,000 people in the country, up 70 percent from 23,000 a year ago. Amitabh Ray, vice president for application services said the new hires would work at its global delivery service center. IBM, the world’s largest computer services company, had announced in June this year that it would invest $6 billion in India over three years as a part of its move to increase outsourcing services and client management. Unisys centers at Bangalore, Hyderabad U.S. based software maker Unisys Corporation has opened two global sourcing operations centers in Bangalore and Hyderabad. These two centers are part of its plans to have 6000 offshore employees by 2008. While its second facility in Bangalore will be operational by mid-October, the Hyderabad center will start functioning from the second quarter of 2007. These two centers will complement its first independent center in Bangalore that is now operating at full capacity. Emulex strengthens India R&D center With the acquisition of Aarohi Communication earlier this year, storage networking firm Emulex is enhancing its India research and development team by hiring 100 engineers over the next two years. Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer, Michael J. Rockenbach said Aarohi’s 35 engineers at Bangalore who were working on intelligent data center networking components and software, will become part of Emulex which will enable them to offload research and development work to its India development center. “Our next generation platform for embedded storage product group would be developed in Bangalore,” he said. @Road makes a presence in Chennai @Road, Inc. has expanded its operations in Chennai. The company’s current headcount is about 160 and there are plans to hike up to 400 engineers in the near future. Krish Panu, President and CEO said, “We realized the potential of Chennai as an excellent location to base our Asian operations five years ago. Since then, our Chennai team has been instrumental in developing key software and service platforms.” Delphi’s Indian engineers to design auto software Delphi, a U.S. based auto component and software major is getting active by hiring 300 Indian engineers over the next two years to design components and software that will power next generation of automobiles globally. “We are expanding our work here at the Bangalore technology center and bringing in new work like application engineering and validation,” says Prashant Saha, Delphi Automotive Systems India Vice President, Sales and Marketing. So far the company has hired 500 engineers who work out of its ITPL, Bangalore based development center. “Increasingly we will be utilizing the India center as an R&D hub for both domestic and international requirements, with our five R&D centers in the Asia Pacific region,” he said. The company has already invested about $10 million in the last 2-3 years on the R&D center to increase production capacity at its Bangalore auto component plant which caters to both the domestic and export customers. IBS to set up R&D center in India British software solutions provider Intelligent Business Systems (IBS) is planning to set up a research and product development center in India. Kaustubh Choksi, CEO of IBS, said. The proposed center that will be operational in three months will employ 300 engineers, he said. IBS, which implements computational and artificial intelligence solutions for business intelligence, will tap the growing banking and retail industry in India.
