QAzone: Focusing on Quality Testing

Date:   Thursday , October 06, 2011

Today, about 32 percent of global IT revenue comes from testing services, which accounted for $30 billion of IT revenue in the financial year 2010-11. Last year, about $10 billion worth testing jobs were outsourced, of which $3.2 billion worth jobs were outsourced to India. Out of this, $1.9 billion of revenue is generated by pure play testing firms. The pace at which their market is growing, it is expected that revenue of these firms might touch $2.3 billion this year. This presents a huge opportunity for the Indian software testing firms.

QAzone Infosystem (‘QAzone’ ), a software testing company started in 2010, wishes to establish a significant presence in the software testing market and bridge the gap that would arise because of ever-increasing demand for software testing services and need for quality solutions.

QAzone offers services mainly in three areas; corporate training, Test Consulting and Total Quality Solutions (TQS). Corporate training covers the entire spectrum of testing, covering manual testing, automation testing, specialized testing, domain based testing and compliance testing for various domain specific compliances (like – HIPAA / PCI / SOX). All the test services are available across all the key domains like – BFSI / Retail / Life sciences and Healthcare / Media, Publishing and Entertainment.

It offers Test Consulting to its clients by performing Test Assessments and suggesting Improvements that makes their testing more effective and controlled. The consultants have expertise in setting up end to end Test CoE for their clients and the company works through COQ based test process management and Quantitative Project management. QAzone has successfully designed the Test Measurement practice for their clients and implemented an effective metrics plan helping them taper down their Cost of Quality thus reducing the testing cost. It also offers Technical consulting in areas like Test tool evaluation, Test Automation / Performance Test Lab setting.

Notwithstanding the above, TQS is the main forte of QAzone, wherein, the Company offers verification services, validation services, and Test support services.

Verification services include compliance testing, requirements verification, and pre-certification product testing. This saves the clients a lot of time and money as they can do product testing and make sure it is compliant with all the necessary requirements of a particular certification before actually going for the certification.

Validation services offered by the company include entire range of functional and non-functional testing either as a part of the end-to-end testing or as a stand-alone service. “The industry seems to be moving their infrastructure to Cloud and more and more virtualization is being implemented. We leverage our team’s extensive experience to provide innovative testing solutions in a wide range of technology and business domains so our clients can successfully attain their business objectives. Our team also supports our client’s business teams in compiling their business requirements in the most detailed fashion in all conventional and evolving platforms so that there is minimum defect creep from this level,” says Smita Mishra, CEO, QAzone.

As part of functional testing the company carries out manual and automation testing across Web applications, Enterprise applications as well as standalone applications. Non-functional testing encompasses installation testing, performance engineering, security testing, globalization, localization testing, compatibility testing, usability testing and error handling and recovery testing. QAzone has led multiple initiatives for it clients for Test Support activities like Test Environment Setup, Test Data management, SCM and Release management.

But all this comes with a set of challenges too. “Since we are a startup firm, we cannot afford to have a single member who is not performing, so it is very important that we hire the right person with the right talent. Also being new, we are still some distance away from having a huge list of clients in each domain” says Manish Mishra, the Director at QAzone.

“We have about nine clients, some of which have long term engagement plans and the remaining are recurring clients, who seek services on need basis. But the motivating and encouraging part is that, every client that we have served to date, came back with repeat business,” says Smita. In the future the company is looking forward to create domain specific business processes based solution frameworks and Test accelerators. There is specific focus to grow as leaders in areas like Mobile apps testing, platform agnostic test (scripts / env / data) automation, security and performance testing in cloud and Metrics lab.

The expansion process is also on the way and QAzone is in the process of increasing their present head count, 28, to 70 – 80 people in the first half of 2012. With the global economy regaining its stability and the testing industry growing the future looks brilliant and promising for the company.
