For well over a decade, Mumbai-based Rolta India has been a leading provider of CAD/CAM/GIS solutions with large orders executed in core sectors like defense, telecom, space, engineering, petrochemical, power, and manufacturing.

It has grown from being purely an engineering design provider to a comprehensive business solution integrator. Over the last year, Rolta has moved into high-end GIS consulting as well.
Rolta posted a net profit of Rs. 262.126 million for the quarter ending December 31, 2004 as compared to Rs. 201.091 million for the quarter ending December 31, 2003.

Their total income increased from Rs.620.60 million in the first half to Rs. 863.579 million for the second half, ending December 31, 2004.

“We expect a turnover of Rs.4.5 billion by the next two years, during which the company will hire 5,000 more. The major driver will be the GIS services following CAD-CAM segment and IT security services,” says CEO Kamal Singh.
Rolta’s strengths in the Plant Design Automation segment has led to the establishment of a full service engineering and procurement joint venture company (Stone & Webster Rolta Limited) with the Shaw Group’s Stone & Webster, Inc., U.S.

In the engineering domain, Rolta claims more than 80 percent market share of the PDA segment in India.

Last year the company was assessed at SEI CMM Level 5. Its clientele include Microsoft, IBM, CA, Network Associates, Intel, Lucent, and Oracle.
