Apalya Technologies, an interactive, on demand Mobile TV service provider in India raised $ 7.5 million in a Series-B funding round lead by Indo-US venture partners (IUVP). "We are pleased to have IUVP on board for this round of funding in addition to IDG and Qualcomm who have been strong supporters of Apalya since its inception," says Vamshi B. Reddy, CEO, Apalya Technologies. This marks the first investment by IUVP in Apalya. In 2009 the company raised $ 3 million in a Series-A funding round from IDG and Qualcomm, who also participated in this round.

The company which has tie-ups with Reliance communications and Tata Teleservices for delivering mobile TV solutions for their 3G services is also partners with various TV channels like Discovery, Disney and Sony. Its content portfolio includes 68 television channels, which include news, entertainment and regional channels and these contents are optimized for viewing on mobile screens through their MiMobiTV service.

The company plans to use the funds to expand its services and technology to take advantage of the mobile TV opportunity emerging from the recent rollout of 3G services in India. "The widespread launch of 3G services in India has the potential to make the mobile screen a dominant live streaming based infotainment and advertising platform," says Vani Kola, Managing Director, IndoUS Venture Partners. Currently their TV service is live on BSNL 3G and MTNL 3G.
