Headquartered in Tokyo, Nikon is specialized in optics and imaging. The entity operates in three segments of precision equipment, imaging products, and instruments.

Taking care of your camera is a prerequisite, whether you’ve invested in a point and shoot or a D-SLR. With the help of some basic techniques, your camera and lenses can last for a longer time and can ensure to deliver quality pictures. Before you embark on any epic photography adventure, make sure you are aware on how to take care of your camera.

One of the major challenges that the photographers face is the accumulation of dust particles in the camera body, on the camera lens and viewfinder. Few photographers do take note of it and keep wiping it off but few tend to ignore the same. To counter the issue, always use the camera body cap to reduce the risk of dust entering the camera if it’s lying idle without the lens attached. Make it a personal commitment at all times to keep the lens covered through the cap, when not in use. The cap will keep the lens clean and protected along with ensuring that the lens remains safe and scratch-free. The best way to remove dust or fingerprints is to use a lens tissue, microfiber cloth, a specialty brush made for cleaning lenses or an air blower. Just arm yourself with a lens cleaning kit and find a clean, dust-free area of the house with plenty of light which will help you in tracing the dust. Camera lenses are expensive to replace or repair, it\'s essential that you clean them carefully. Additionally, please do not use any liquids or grind the lens with and cleaning cloth if the dust is logged bad and cannot be removed by blower then take it to service center as using cleaning liquids and grinding the lens with tissue or cloth repeatedly could damage the coatings of the lens.

We all are aware of the nagging feeling when we run out of battery in our cameras. Don’t sweat as there are various ways by which we can avoid such a situation. To begin with, start using the viewfinder to setup your frame instead of the LCD screen. Since LCD display consumes high power avoid image review as much as possible, you can set the auto image review ON to OFF mode in play back menu. Latest technology helps to capture great images in low light with high ISO so avoid usage of built in flash if situation allows. Battery care is vital. If you don’t use your D-SLR for an elongated period, make sure that you remove the battery when you store the camera, if possible fully discharged beforehand.

Our cameras are exposed to many conditions such as air conditioning, indoor heat, and external elements. Difference of temperature in a short duration can lead to condensation on the camera lens. To prevent this, always carry your camera in a protective bag, which will not only prevent condensation but will also protect it. Taking silica packets that are found in packing materials or new bags and keeping them in your camera bags will help absorb moisture in humid weather.

Fungus can damage the lens elements; always try to protect the lens from developing fungus. In case of expensive lenses always suggest to store in dehumidifier cabinets. If not economical to purchase then use silica packets during storage. If lens is lying ideal for months then once a while do general cleaning and leave the lens under small indirect sun light (near to window ) for couple of hours.

While using an interchangeable lens camera, there is probability of exposing internal components whenever you change the lens. If possible try to interchange the lens in dust free environment. Do not click the camera when lens is not mounted. Minimize the time period for interchanging lens - do it quickly, remember to face the camera downward as you take off or put on lenses to avoid dust particles or anything falling inside the camera.

Always strap on your camera, we all have seen many times how people end up dropping their cameras while taking a shot. At times even that rubberized grip can slip right out of the hands. Cameras and lenses are gadgets which are fragile and expensive and with a strap on, the chances of dropping the camera reduce a lot. Also, you get a better grip and accessibility. Never remove or install you cameras memory card while the camera is on. Whenever you take a picture, and you see a rapidly blinking light that means that the image is getting transferred to the memory card. Ejecting the memory card while the camera is on at times could lead to losing all the beautiful pictures that are saved in the memory card. Finally, try to control the release time, every click or release will reduce the life of shutter.
