The Network: The pace of technology is moving very fast and network operators are being flooded with unpredictable and unstructured data traveling through networks. They need to scale their networks with new technologies and adjust their business models to meet this explosive demand. This also means moving more management of the network to a software-based model that helps mobile operators gain more visibility and the targeted intelligence, the need to not only ensure the quality of their networks but also offer new services that help them monetize the network. JDSU has become a strategic partner in this area.
Networks are also becoming faster and more agile to support the influx of connected users and the resulting data. This requires the implementation of highly integrated and flexible optical components within network infrastructures and JDSU also has a leading position in this area.
Anti-Counterfeiting: Counterfeit activity continues to grow and is an escalating global problem that negatively impacts economies and people\'s lives. JDSU is providing unique anti-counterfeiting technology such as color-shifting pigments that make it easy for a person to identify the validity of a product but makes it difficult for a counterfeiter to replicate. Counterfeiters continue to get access to more technology to try and create fake products, so our unique security solutions are vital in thwarting their efforts. An example of this would be a color-shifting image on a piece of currency.
JDSU also supports key trends happening in the area of lasers and emerging areas like gesture recognition. This technology is exciting because it simplifies the way that people interact with technology. Now people can use simple body movements or gestures to activate applications. It first took off a few years ago in gaming and is making its way into a variety of PCs, tablets and smart TVs. All of the major operating systems are now gesture enabled.
Mobile devices are next, once the core technology can be shrunk down while at the same time preserving the same high performance and reliability.

Mobility, the next big thing
Within the IT organization at JDSU, we strongly believe that every application has to be available on a mobile device and we have developed an internal mobile app store for the JDSU workforce. We are also partnering with the R&D team to develop and deploy mobile apps for JDSU customers around the world.
From an external perspective, the pace of technology is moving extremely fast as people across the world become increasingly connected as a part of how they function in their daily lives. There are millions of apps downloaded daily. It is expected that there will be 7 billion mobile devices by 2015. Many more applications and systems are also moving to the cloud over the next few years.
As a result, network operators are being flooded with huge amounts of unpredictable and unstructured data traveling through their networks. With our solutions and years of network expertise, JDSU is a strategic partner that provides the visibility and intelligence to help operators manage, scale and monetize their networks.
Most recently, we acquired a company called Arieso that provides location-aware solutions to mobile operators. By measuring the mobile behavior of subscribers, mobile operators can focus their business around their customers, rather than on the technology of the network, to create new revenue-generating services.

Even with various market fluctuations, the long term drivers for our business remain strong. This include increasing network bandwidth demands and an influx of data flooding networks, escalating counterfeiting activity, and the integration of new technologies into next-generation systems and new products.
We feel confident on our focus in these areas. We also take pride in our efforts at collaborative innovation, working closely with our customers to design impactful and future-thinking technologies that will be important for years to come.
Within the IT organization at JDSU, we are committed to continue delivering value to the overall business. Some of the ways we are doing this are by focusing on leveraging the cloud and delivering internal services that help make our employees more productive. We are also focused on leveraging data to drive real time decisions and to drive supply chain efficiencies and sales channel effectiveness.
Overall, JDSU will continue focusing on collaborative innovation with customers in the markets it serves to come up with the most impactful technologies for the future. A solid percentage of revenue consistently comes from new products and we are passionate about continued innovation. JDSU also developed an Innovation Council a few years ago that accepts new product ideas outside of our current roadmap that can lead us into new areas. Some of the products gaining traction today came from that forum.
