How is Dell’s presence in India?

The consumer business for dell in India has been growing consistently for the last several quarters. Until a few years back Dell was very popular only in the large corporate space but today it has grown to become the preferred brand
for personal use as well. In the course a big shift has happened from being available through retail as well. A lot of effort has gone into making this happen.We had to get the
right product into the market, have the right marketing approach,the channel, and after sales service.An amalgamation of all of these has resulted in a growing number of cosumers.

What are all the emerging trends in the consumer
behavior?

On a longer term stand point following major trends in customer behavior:
1. Form Factor: Notebooks are becoming thinner and lighter with no compromise on power and battery life,and a manifestation of this on desktops; the all in one desktop.
2. Connectivity: More connectivity options coming in.
3. Content consumption: Screens have to be sharper and have HD video, processor and graphics needs to be able to support the refresh rates and sound need to better.

What are the steps you are taking to retain your position in the consumer market?

Rather than focussing on the competition we focus on our customers, what they want and what we can do for them.It’s very important for us to keep our costumers satisfied. If I can serve a customer in a particular part of the country,
with a technology solution or a service that they need and I am able to deliver it to them on time in the form they want with the right after sales service, they will be happy. The
company that does this the best will be the one with the best shares and the most profits in the long term and that is where we like to keep our energy focused on.

What are the plans you have for the next year?

On produces, our focus is on keeping with the technology trends. An example would be the ‘all in one’ space, which now is a very small percent of the desktop market but it is
growing. We are gearing up to come out with more and more products in this space. Then we have plans to integrate more radios and connectivity options within the computer.
Further we have plans to customize solutions that fit specific customer segments, for example, if there are gamers they need high performance computing and our plan is to provide this. We want to make the Dell brand
more easily available all across the country. Our next frontier is the small devices market; we are set to launch our smart phones in India.We have already entered the tablets
market with Dell Streak.
