Today, the issue of climate change is grabbing the headlines like never before and companies around the globe are taking up several measures to improve energy efficiency and manage their carbon emissions. While some firms do it voluntarily, others are driven by emission and energy regulations. In this scenario where controlling energy use and emission is of pivotal importance, the solutions offered by companies like Ecologix could come as a major tool for enterprises to control their emissions.

Ecologix is an Indian startup that is looking to compete with global players by offering a tool that can do more than just analyzing the data pertaining to carbon emissions. Founded by a team that has worked extensively in the energy sector, the solution offered by Ecologix is aimed at helping companies to analyze their carbon footprint and optimize their processes to reduce it. The scenario analysis tool that also comes with the software can help companies to overcome future challenges related to the carbon emissions.

Product offerings:

Ecologix has developed its proprietary enterprise level software tools GAMCO and EPCO (patent pending), which help enterprises in inventorying energy, emissions, waste and water, optimizing energy efficiency improvement, and emission and waste abatement costs. Apart from these capabilities the solution also helps companies to analyze future scenarios such as company’s growth, changes in energy prices, M&As, policy changes, and technology advancements among others.

What next?

With the increasing adoption of greener solutions among the enterprises, thanks to consumer demand for such products and the necessity for adhering to newer regulations, companies like Ecologix stand to benefit. In the next three months, Ecologix plans to launch an upgrade for its software using which the companies will also be able to manage emissions in the supply chain, apart from the manufacturing area. The company also plans to extend its reach to markets like the U.S., Europe, Australia, Canada, and Japan for which it hopes to raise extra funding.

Differentiating factors:

Clear Standards’ enterprise ‘Sustainability 2.0’ software is aimed to help organizations measure, mitigate, and monetize carbon emissions, Hara offers Environmental and Energy Management software as a service solution. However, the major differentiator is the analytics framework that is part of the solution, according to Nair. He says that the tools not only help in analyzing energy, emission, waste, and water issues, but also in optimization and future scenario analysis, which none of its competitors offer.

Revenue Model:

The sources of revenue are through licensing the product and consulting that goes in calibrating the models: The software is licensed to the firms for which Ecologix charges a license fee and it also derives its revenue from offering consultation in calibrating the tools for the end clients.
