This year, the State elections in Delhi created hue and cry in the country. As time was passing, all political parties were trying their best to woo the \'Janta\' for their precious votes. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was successful in amazing the whole country with their performance in the elections. From nowhere to now an independent party and a potential for Delhi state elections, AAP had done some fine work with its out-of-the-box marketing strategies and innovative thinking along with use of technology. AAP was helped by VoiceTree Technologies, a cloud telephony startup,who supported AAP to remain technologically ahead with its telephony solutions. VoiceTree\'s MyOperator, a flagship product, helped AAP get over 12 lakh calls just within 20 days of their campaigning.

Incepted in 2010, VoiceTree Technologies offer \'Simpler Affordable Telephony\' solutions to small and mid-sized businesses. Initially started as a services company, Ankit Jain\'s (Founder & CEO, VoiceTree) primary idea was to have an in-depth understanding of the domain of call management for businesses and to eventually develop the core back end of the company whilst understanding about the market over the time. \"We wanted to identify the real pain points for the customers in terms of calls. This led us to launch our product in March 2013. Since then, we have focused on the growth of this product, market and everything else,\" says Ankit.

The Entrepreneurial Journey

Ankit explains how the idea of entrepreneurship came in his mind when he was pursuing his CSE Engineering from BIT Mesra. While in college, he co-founded an entrepreneurship cell in his college. This is when he was bitten by the entrepreneur bug and decided to not to go for a campus placement and instead look for a startup opportunity where he can have a thorough understanding on how to a start a business. He worked in a startup for almost one year to understand the real market needs. During this time, he gained a lot of market experience which helped him acquire more customers and building an efficient team later in his venture. \"I always felt that voice unlike text is a very human way of conversation. Thus, it was important to find out why companies are not focusing on voice as a medium of communication. So, I started with exploring the ideas in this voice process domain and make a company resemble a VoiceTree,\" he adds. VoiceTree emerged as a bootstrapped company and have not acquired any extra funding till date. \"We have 75+ employee strength and over 600 paying customers.These businesses are using this system for their day-to-day call management and have provided us with enthusiastic feedbacks,\" explains Ankit.

Easier Said Than Done

Behind every successful business area handful of errors. Ankit recounts at the beginning of his entrepreneurial journey, he had very little money and faced several failures in terms of services which he eventually overcame.\"I came up with an idea for a product which would help generate some revenue to build a team. We needed to make an initial amount to even build a product and get it into the market,\" he says. Apart from the monetary constraints, Ankit and his team also had a tough time while deciding on the talent. \"It is said that the toughest part of a company, even before building a product, is to build a good team. I was lucky here to get some good people. We started with an initial team of 8 people and with their help; our flagship product \'MyOperator\' went viral,\" he further adds. Over a period of time, the challenges have changed. Currently, the company sees educating clients as a primary challenge but the picture is changing now. This makes them focus more on the call management segment wherein they try to educate the customers on why the businesses need call management. \"People are getting more and more enthusiast about softwares, especially the cloud based that is the trend in the Indian market,\" says Ankit.
What provides VoiceTree an edge above others is their fundamental focus on call management part where they keep a detailed track of the calls that comes to the companies and analyze them. \"It became easy for our customers to visit our site and create a full fledge working account in just 30 seconds of time. This changes the dimension of business when they get immediate delivery,\" explains Ankit.

Across the world, many companies provide hosted PBX systems. However, none is emphasizing on the lingering need of managing calls systematically to provide more control over the business communications through everyday accountability and big data. VoiceTree has been in this market for 3 and a half years and have tested a range of voice services at varying levels. \"We have clearly gauged that pivoting the idea from \'voice\' to a \'complete call management\' makes it more generic and urgent for businesses. It is not an add-on or a good-to-have but an essential component of how businesses think sales and customer retention, considering its direct impact on business acquisition. This will enable us to expand our reach to international markets very swiftly,\" shares Ankit.

A passion driven business decision hand in glove with the zeal to establish voice as a medium of communication has helped VoiceTree come a long way since its inception. With an annual growth of 430 percent, the company launched the next version of \'MyOperator\'. \"This is going to be a remarkable upgrade from the previous version and will help people to manage the calls in a better way. Moreover, we have planned to launch this product globally in the next couple of months\" concludes Ankit.

The customers see the requirement of call management to maintain higher ROI on marketing expenses, manage sales and support team coordination and ensure that they form an exhaustive database of their customer interactions, helping them leverage the strength of big data.
