Date:   Friday , February 27, 2015

Today, industry leaders opine that the shortage of appropriately skilled labor across many sectors is emerging as a significant and complex challenge to India\'s growth and future. Therefore, the need of the hour is institutions that train students to be career ready and schools with unique pedagogies that prepare students to solve real world problems. On the other hand, students look to get into institutions that can make them more efficient and sharpen their skill sets with practical learning. However, this option is not widely available as most of the institutions are still going strong with its traditional theory based education system. Established in the year 2001 with a vision to solve a problem and meet the unmet needs of the students, Bangalore based RNS Institute of Technology (RNSIT) is one among the preferred engineering destinations for students across the country. The college stands for encouraging the talented and merited students by offering scholarships, internships and on-campus placements. \"The hallmark of our institution is the \'Discipline and Work Culture.\' We believe in talent and provide platforms for anyone who shows potential,\" says Dr. H N Shivashankar, Director, RNS Institute of Technology.

Balancing what is necessary and what is helpful for the industry, the institute gives priority to students to make them more efficient. With the advantage of having their establishment in the Bangalore – the Silicon Valley of India, RNSIT has successfully established a good understanding with some top companies around the city. \"Infosys, Wipro and Accenture are some names that help in the foundation programs for student development. These connections bring in the industry factor inside the campus,\" says Dr. Shivashankar. Bridging the gap between industry and students even more, the college has a Quality Assurance cell. This cell monitors and maintains the quality of students, guiding them on their research works. Various workshops, seminars and symposiums are also conducted to connect industry and academia, and to improve the skills of students.

With an annual intake of more than a thousand students, the college boasts of its 94 percent placement rate. Lucrative placements of students, is one of the college\'s top priorities. Today, with outstanding figures in placements the institution places its students at a minimum of 6 lakhs in some of the top firms. Accenture, Aspiring Minds, IBM, Infosys, Toyota, Wipro, ITC InfoTech, Tech Mahindra, Hewlett-Packard, Bosch, Singapore InfoTech, HGS and IBM are some of the recruiters of this institution. “We aspire to become the best and make a mark in the technical sector, imparting world class technical Education with a 100 percent placement rate,” says Shivashankar.

The placement record of the institution is a testament to the proficiency of the placement cell of the institution, which was established in 2002. This cell enhances employability of the students by conducting specialized training and technical interviews. It also focuses on industrial training sessions for the placed students just before they join the respective industry. This gives a better focus on career orientation to students and benefits the industry with students who have sufficient knowledge and training about the industrial world. To provide extensive training as well as recruitment opportunity in premier companies, the institution has also established MoUs with many reputed online test providers. Aspiring Minds, Olive Board, Monster College, Wipro Mission R&D and Infosys arrange interactions and work closely with the students of RNSIT to help in their growth and placement.

Active Faculty Base

At RNSIT, the emphasis is to teach concepts, basics and fundamentals to help students prepare for a successful career. The college encourages innovation and creativity and it promotes to instill passion, courage and confidence among the students. Thus, introduction of a new syllabus once in every four years is a mandatory act for the institution. With an altered set of curriculum, arises the need of a dedicated faculty. The institution leaves no stone unturned when it comes down to their methods of imparting knowledge. With over 20 doctorates and nearly 60 pursuing PhD, all the faculty members in every department are members of Board of Studies in the Visvesvaraya Technological University, under which the institution functions. Alumni of the college, also plays a very big role in helping the institution identify the obsolete, latest and future trends in many of the subjects being currently offered. To impart a more practical based learning, the faculty members later incorporate these topics in the syllabus. The objective of the college is mix teaching and research to produce a better result.

Interdisciplinary research works can answer complex questions and address any issue, the institution helps students meet these challenges through an inter-disciplinary research department. Interdisciplinary research works are a key to new research and innovation. This involves students, and?teachers connecting and integrating?several academic?disciplines, in?the?pursuit?of?a common task that can help in the future. With their unique pedagogy RNSIT today, passionately develop the skill sets of students and prepares them to be not just job ready but career ready.
