In what could be a remarkable transformation in the police administration system of the country, the IT major Wipro has developed a new integrated police information system, which would cover all the important activities related to the day-to-day functioning of the police departments, including the back-end administrative processes of general administration, finance, and stores.

The application, which is now at the pilot stage, would enable police departments to keep all the records in a systematic manner and provide operational efficiency throughout the administration. Designed on a flexible software-oriented architecture, the application can be used in both centralized and de-centralized deployment modes. Under this, each police station can function independently, as data would flow to the divisional and regional headquarters at regular intervals. Moreover, through a citizen interface of the application, one can lodge complaints and track the status of an already filed FIR.
