In the first phase of a major investment plan for India, Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), a provider of wireless solutions, has opened a new manufacturing plant for microwave antenna systems, in Kolkata. The company intends to meet the burgeoning requirement across India and the APAC region for microwave connectivity in mobile backhaul and transmission backbone applications.

"In India, a new cellular base station site goes on air every four minutes. This is generating a huge need for the timely and cost-effective delivery of high-quality microwave radio systems to connect new base transceiver stations (BTS) to cellular networks," says Kuldeep Tikoo, General Manager, RFS India. By ramping up the production capacity in India, the company is expected to be able to lower the cost of logistics and reduce import duties, while cutting delivery lead times by more than 50 percent.
