The market for such solutions globally could be anywhere between 1-1.5 billion dollars. In India, the market would be about 5-6 percent of the size.
What are some of the emerging trends in the storage solution space?
I see a lot of demand for Tape for back up, archives and restore. I see disc coming to picture in the area of back and pushing tape to archive. There were technologies like Virtual Tape Library (VTL) and data de-duplication and other disc based solution which came to lime light and created a short hype. But in terms of reliability, Tape is still ruling the space. It is emerging as a reliable option for mission critical storage and for long term archives.
LTO technological advances have improved tape reliability by more than 700 percent over the tape technology that was available a decade ago. Tape libraries now have the intelligence to proactively alert the user if media or hardware issues are developing. Gone are the days of not knowing if a tape has been used beyond any manufacturer thresholds, if there has been environmental damage to media, if failures are drive or media related, or if data is on the tape media.
