Dell ring’s the India Bell

Expanding into emerging markets like India is vital for the company. Dell, which has only four percent of the Indian market, competes with IBM, Hewlett-Packard, and several local competitors like HCL and Wipro. Dell said that the company expects to sustain a growth of over 40 percent here. India is the fourth largest market in Asia Pacific for Dell after China, Japan and South Korea.
Dell will set up a hardware engineering team in India this year, which will focus on server design and storage technologies. New products and form factors of servers will be designed out of the center. The company has 14 percent share of the server market in India.
Dell said his company was in discussions with several state governments to set up a manufacturing unit in India, but is yet to finalize a location. Chennai is rated as the favorite location for Dell to set up its third computer-manufacturing center in Asia. If Dell decides to go to Chennai it will be follow in the footsteps of others like Flextronics and Nokia and turn Chennai into a manufacturing hub for telecom and IT companies.
