ZipDial, a mobile number verification service provider, has raised Rs. 3.5 crore in its first round of funding from a consortium led by Mumbai Angels with participation from U.S. based angel investors. The Bangalore based start-up, founded by Valerie Rozycki, Amiya Pathak and Sanjay Swamy, has developed a mobile-engagement platform based on the concept of a missed call, where when the customer calls ZipDial number the call will get disconnected in a couple of seconds and they will receive an SMS with the information or cricket score. The company intends to use the investment to expand engineering and business development teams.

ZipDial lets companies verify their customers’ mobile numbers without the need to send or receive SMS, over a phone line. It aims to provide an alternative to SMS for verification, particularly given the SMS Spam regulations which are expected to be enforced by the TRAI sometime this year.

The service has been deployed on e-commerce portals Flipkart and Myntra, and education portal TutorVista. It also tied-up with LG during the world cup to offer Cricket scores on missed calls. Now they are also providing scores of the IPL matches.
