Jagbir Singh, who resigned as group CTO, Bharti Airtel, has joined Reliance Communications as its President and Head, Network. This is a crucial change in the run-up to the start of 3G networks in India. RCom has huge 3G expansion plans coming up this year and Singh’s taking over this strategic position in Reliance can accelerate its growth.

The company is rolling out the Mobile Net Plan across 24,000 cities and 600,000 villages in India, which offers both CDMA and GSM services and will focus on providing broadband wireless through its 3G ready pan-India CDMA network, he says.

Singh held his post at Bharti since November 2001. He led the complete mobility network team, 3G strategy, planning team, and Wimax deployment team at Bharti and was responsible for strategic planning of mobile network, providing strategic direction, deciding the network architecture, and network vision.

He was also responsible for Bharti’s international ventures of 2G and 3G networks in Sri Lanka, Seychelles, and Channel Islands in the UK.

With over 20 years in the telecom field, Singh has had working experiences with Nortel (in Asia-Pacific role), Lucent Technologies, and Defense Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), Government of India.
