Raja Khanna and Wayne Purboo co-founded QuickPlay Media closed its Series C funding of $15 million, led by Ventures West. Also participating were General Catalyst, J.L. Albright Venture Partners and Up Capital.

Founded in 2004, QuickPlay Media, a provider of content management and service delivery solutions for mobile television and video services, is the first to launch mobile video service in the Canadian market.

Through QuickPlay Media, users can have easy access to business and finance updates, as well as news, entertainment, and health and sports information. The QuickPlay Personal Entertainment Server manages all aspects of the mobile media service including content management, subscription management, content delivery, and billing integration. Content can be aggregated by QuickPlay or by carriers themselves. Apart from these services, QuickPlay mobile services include interactive audio, video, and rich media portals. QuickPlay’s OpenVideo platform powers mobile video services for 10 major mobile operators in Canada and the United States.

“The Series C financing strongly positions the company to respond to the growing demand from mobile operators for the unique video solutions made possible by QuickPlay’s OpenVideo platform,” said Wayne Purboo, CEO and co-founder of QuickPlay Media.

Toronto-based QuickPlay Media has already earned ‘Company of the Year’ honor from Canadian New Media Awards in 2006 and the Canadian New Media Award for ‘Most Promising New Company’ in 2005. The company is also a provider of mobile video solution to carriers and content providers in Europe. It has also been successful in 3G deployments in North America. The company that delivers multimedia to mobile devices quickly established itself as a provider of mobile media services, by signing on clients such as Disney Group’s ESPN Mobile Publishing, YouTube, Bell Mobility, Rogers, Telus, CBC, MTV, and CHUM Television.
