Current Trends in the Industry

From a technology standpoint, there is a wide array of technology trends that are relevant to the Pharmaceutical industry. Information Security, digital identity management, collaboration enablers such as video conferencing and Sharepoint, social media, cloud computing, big data and mobile computing are some of the areas that appear to be vibrant. Big data analytics is a particularly interesting one considering its potential to help address real-world issues such as cost of healthcare, with potential benefits across the healthcare value chain beginning with the patient. This is a particularly interesting area considering that it can be a confluence of patient medical records, genomic data and other data managed by other participants in this value chain. Starting with patient enrollment for clinical trials all the way through to helping patients and care providers determining course of treatment, this is one very interesting area.
