In an effort to make virtualization available to the Indian education system, NComputing, a virtual desktop solutions provider, has announced an outsourcing deal with the Andhra Pradesh state government wherein it will provide access to computers to around 18 lakh students in the state. By choosing virtual desktop solutions, the government is expected to save nearly $18 million in up-front and ongoing costs in education.

Based on the 'Build, Operate, and Transfer' (BOT) program, the deal will provide each of the 5,000 secondary schools of the state government with a 10-seat computing lab with two desktop PCs and eight NComputing systems. The deal requires the firm to install, staff, and manage the labs for a five-year term.

However, the firm also tries to grab the other sectors like BPOs, police department, revenue sector, and financial institutes in India, as it expects the country to become the largest virtual desktop market by 2009.
