“Self-belief, vision and execution with innovation, rigor and discipline, prioritizing team building and mentoring along with hard work and commitment, and above all, humility in all that we do,” are the key points of an effective leadership, opines the new Head of Business for India and Emerging Markets, Cognizant, S Venkatramani. He joins Cognizant with an experience spanning more than 22 years, working at several significant positions in the fields of marketing and sales.

Venkatramani is an IIT-Madras graduate in metallurgical engineering. After his graduation he worked for two years in Telco, Jamshedpur, as a trainee engineer. Then he joined IIM-Bangalore in 1983 for an MBA in marketing and systems. He worked in BPCL branches in Chennai and Goa before joining TCS as a system analyst in 1987, and became the Head of Oracle Technology and Practice group in 1992. He took charge of the company’s accounting branch TCS-EX in 1997, helping the company to retain its leading position in a span of three years.
In his previous assignment, he was working since 2003 as the Regional Manager for TCS’ operations in India, when the company established the western region as its business hub in banking and financial services in the country. He will lead Cognizant with his experience in marketing and sales to take the company forward in a global scenario.
An avid philosophy reader and an ardent music lover, Venkatramani also headed SPIC Macay’s Bangalore unit, following his love for the culture.

His counsel for the young techies is to work more on honing their industry and domain knowledge along with their technology skills, turning out to be multifaceted and also much sought after by employers.
