In 1998, outsourcing was restricted to Y2K remediation and Off-shoring was still in its nascent stage with body-shopping being more prevalent. Companies had not yet gained the confidence to outsource critical Infrastructure Management Services (IMS) and mostly kept it in-house or outsourced it to near-shore sites. Amidst this insignificant scene C. S. (Sonny) Gupta witnessed a bright IMS future and thus founded Maintec Technologies. The company began servicing clients with a focus on providing IBM Training and Y2K remediation services on Mainframe platforms. Over a period of time, Maintec has emerged as an offshore outsourcing destination. Twelve years after founding Maintec, today Sonny modestly smiles at his own accurate vision, when he sees more number of critical processes being offshored from across the globe.

In his bestseller “The World is Flat” Thomas L Friedman has explained how staff functions outsourced to India will transform all forms of American businesses. Maintec took the clue and readily began to tight-ship its Remote IT Staffing division. “We thoroughly gauge the technical expertise that the assignment needs and then take into account the client’s organization’s culture and working patterns before we propose suitable candidates for projects.” says the CEO. Maintec understands that companies are paying premium for weekend and third shifts, which can be significantly reduced. Maintec’s offshore IT resources function on a 24x7x365 basis ensuring clients complete coverage for their Software Development & Maintenance and IT Infrastructure needs. Maintec’s Hire, Train and Deploy (HTD) program, a turnkey, no-obligation solution for clients, has to its credit of creating extremely niche skills which are not readily available in the Indian market. “Bridging the gap of Project requirements by enhancing skills has been the key ingredient for success in the HTD” says Naveen.V, Managing Director of Maintec Technologies, India who though its 100 percent subsidiary ProED Training has had the distinction of imparting training to over 600 Batches, 12,000 skilled Data Developers with 100 percent employment to its alumni.

RIM as an industry can realize $26-28 billion in revenue by 2013, with India capturing as much as 50-55 percent share of this. Maintec’s core focus is to provide Remote Infrastructure Management (RIM), Remote Data Center Management and Application Development & Maintenance services on IBM Mainframe and Midrange Platforms. Though the competition is with biggies like HCL, TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, Patni, Tech Mahindra, IBM, HP and Accenture, Maintec has been able to maintain its edge through the Global Delivery Center that consists of complete z/OS, AS/400 (iSeries) and AIX Infrastructure. They have in-house Data Center in Bangalore with an ES/9000 Mainframe staffed with a full fledged and System Team. This platform has been upgraded to the latest z Series Mainframes. Maintec can provide clients with fully managed z/OS, z/VM and zLinux Environments with flexible delivery models – Onsite at client’s premises or Remotely at Maintec Data Center.

A huge opportunity lies ahead for Maintec in the RIM market which is touted to be the next big offshore prospect for India after application development and maintenance (ADM) and BPO. Maintec has been aggressively creating awareness among CIO’s of fortune companies about the effective business values they get post the slowdown era, by developing strategic associations with a well-rooted offshore IT solutions provider specialized in the RIM domain.

Internally at Maintec, each employee is given an opportunity to be independent with focus for on-going learning both at a personal and professional level. The entrepreneurial spirit runs deep at all levels of the organization. The company’s goal for 2011 is expansion of the RIM service offering to UK and European markets apart from the existing US geography.
