“Success is not about the ability to create a definitive dogmatic end state; it is about the unfolding of thought processes, of dialogue and continuum,” affirms Subroto Bagchi, the newly appointed Vice Chairman of MindTree. As the Vice Chairman and a Co-founder of MindTree, Bagchi would lead the efforts in co-innovation in collaboration with its customers. He will also be the Chairman of MindTree’s Innovation Council and will continue in his current role of Gardener, where he helps shape future leaders of the company. Prior to co-founding MindTree, he worked for over a decade with various U.S. and Indian companies such as Lucent Technologies and Wipro in several leadership roles.

As a ‘Gardener’, Bagchi believes that no plant reports to the gardener; the gardener attends to the plants in their time and space. This would mean interacting with the plants (or leaders) to foster the growth of the organization and its employees. He asserts that titles do not nourish a business leader. “The time has come for all of us to take the idea of organization, titles, roles, and everything else in between, to the next level. The so-called modern organization we created for ourselves and then became a product of is an extension of the factory-economy of the last century,” he articulates.

Holding on to his beliefs, Bagchi advices the young techie professionals to realize the importance of work ethics rather than over-planning to have the perfect career path in their life. Besides being an outstanding entrepreneur, Bagchi is a great orator and writer. He recently published his second book “Go Kiss the World: Life Lessons for the Young Professional”, which is also a memoir, describing his growth to what he is today and the learning, principles, and values developed during the journey.
