"It is most important to prevent the occurrence of disease than to seek a cure," ~ Acharya Charaka, the Father of Medicine.

This proverb has been the underlying essence of our ancestor's fitness for ages as healthcare was seen as a holistic care of one's physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Most of us know that Ayurveda and Yoga originated from India but many of us are ignorant of the fact that the founding father of surgery was an Indian - Maharishi Shushrut. Even cataract surgery was first performed in India. India has been the epitome of healthcare and the world has followed our tradition and methods of medications since ancient times.

But with aeon, we have put our healthcare on shelf and taken it for granted. Modern times have brought new kind of diseases into being called lifestyle diseases which has clutched not just the old but youth and even infants. The ever growing population of the country has resulted in disparate healthcare system between rural and urban areas. While majority of doctors prefer servicing the urban populace, rural people are left unattended making them travel several kilometres for any help. And for hospitals, increasing number of patients means increasing paper work, which requires more manual intervention resulting in more human errors.

But with technology taking charge, things seem to come on track. HMS, LMS, e-Doctors and several similar technological advancements are trying to streamline this disparate healthcare ecosystem of the country. Hospital and healthcare professionals who were reluctant to use these technologies are now embracing them for the unlimited benefit they bring to the table. Even patients have the power in their hands to fix an appointment with the doctors with just few clicks on their smartphone sitting at the comfort of their home or can even request for home collection of blood samples by path labs. Though technological intervention in healthcare is quite new in India, the intelligent technology companies are playing eminent role in aligning the fragmented healthcare stakeholders. To encourage them and to bring in light some of the eminent companies, we bring to you '20 Most Promising Healthcare Technology Providers - 2017' in our latest edition.
